French Antique Wall Shelf

A French antique wall shelf dating to the early 1900s, constructed in solid wood and finished in a grey-white painted surface that has developed significant patina over more than a century of use. The piece retains its original hanging hardware, visible as two small metal rings fixed to the back panel, confirming its intended use as a wall-mounted display unit. This French antique wall shelf is a genuine early 20th-century domestic object, not a later reproduction.

The shelf unit comprises three open horizontal tiers set within a plain rectangular frame. The most distinctive feature is the shaped pediment board rising above the top rail, cut into a crown-like silhouette with two pointed finials flanking a central concave arch — a decorative form typical of provincial French furniture of the Belle Epoque period. The painted surface shows heavy wear consistent with age: paint loss along the shelf fronts reveals bare wood beneath, orange-brown water or rust staining is visible across the front edges of the middle shelves, and dark staining — possibly ink or oil — marks the two lower shelf surfaces. The back panel carries further paint crazing and surface dirt. Structurally the carcass appears solid, with no visible breaks or losses to the frame itself, though the condition is clearly as-found and would benefit from cleaning or repainting before display use.

Dimensions as stated by the seller: 38cm wide x 15.5cm deep x 36cm tall / 15.0" x 6.1" x 14.2". The three shelf bays offer modest but usable storage depth suitable for small objects, spice jars, or miniature figurines.
