French Honey Pots
This set of two French honey pots originates from rural France, dating to approximately 1850. These traditional confit jars represent authentic 19th-century provincial pottery, handcrafted for preserving honey, jams, and other food stores in French households of the period.
Each vessel displays the characteristic bulbous form with wide openings typical of French provincial pottery. The rich terracotta red glaze covers both pieces, enhanced by cream-colored drip glazes that create an organic, artisanal finish. The glazed surfaces show authentic aging and patina consistent with their 19th-century origins, while the weathered bases add to their historic character.
The French honey pots measure 13cm and 16cm high respectively (5.1" and 6.3"). Both pieces remain in good condition for their age of over 170 years, displaying minor wear that confirms their genuine antique provenance. The cream glaze drips and natural weathering enhance their authentic appearance and collectible appeal.
These confit jars suit collectors of French provincial pottery and antique kitchen implements. Their traditional form and historic patina make them suitable for decorative display or as authentic examples of 19th-century French rural craftsmanship.
