French Antique Bread Board

A French antique bread board of substantial size, cut from a single piece of solid wood and shaped in the classic rectangular form with a narrow handle extension at the top. This French antique bread board belongs to a long tradition of farmhouse kitchen tools made for daily use in rural French households, where large boards were essential for preparing and serving bread.

The surface shows extensive patina accumulated over decades of use: deep knife marks, cross-hatched scoring lines, and areas of darker staining concentrated toward the center of the board where the cutting action was most intense. The wood has dried and lightened with age, taking on a pale honey tone with darker patches that record years of contact with food and moisture. The handle is squat and functional, with a hanging hole drilled through it and gently rounded shoulders where it meets the board body. One corner of the board shows a darkened burn mark, clearly visible in the detail photos. The edges are worn and slightly beveled from long use. No maker's mark or stamp is visible in any of the photos.
