French Brass Photo Frame Cure d'Ars

A late 19th-century French brass photo frame serving as a religious souvenir from the pilgrimage site of Ars-sur-Formans in the Ain department of France. The frame holds a period devotional card combining a portrait of J.B.M. Vianney (the Cure d'Ars) with a depiction of a saint and a photograph of the Ancienne et Nouvelle Eglise d'Ars. The photographer credit reads "Vernu, phot. Ars (Ain)", identifying a local Ars photographer. This French brass photo frame was produced as a pelerinage souvenir, likely dating from after Vianney's beatification in 1905 and before his canonization in 1925, based on the wording "Bienheureux Cure d'Ars" visible on the reverse prayer card.

The frame is constructed with a beveled glass front, giving a prismatic edge visible in the detail photos. The brass fittings include a decorative ribbon bow at the top, two small ball feet at the base, and a hinged brass easel stand at the rear. The bow ornament is cast brass with a ribbed, twisted ribbon form. The frame has no surrounding metal border -- the beveled glass itself forms the display face, held by the minimal brass hardware. The reverse carries a printed prayer in French titled "Bienheureux Cure d'Ars", partially obscured by the easel stand. Overall condition is good with age-appropriate patina to the brass and minor surface wear to the glass edges.
