French agricultural trophy

This authentic French agricultural trophy plaque from 1951 represents a significant piece of rural French heritage. Awarded by the Societe Hippique Francaise in Nantes, this commemorative prize honored excellence in livestock breeding competitions that were central to French agricultural communities of the mid-20th century.

The oval-shaped plaque displays raised lettering on a striking red background, framed by an ornate brass or bronze border with decorative flourishes at the top. The inscription clearly reads "Prix de la Vendee 5e Prix" indicating this was a fifth-place prize in the Vendee regional competition. The weathered patina and authentic aging demonstrate decades of display history.

Measuring 13.5cm x 9.5cm (5.3" x 3.7"), this substantial metal plaque shows honest wear consistent with its agricultural origins and 70+ year age. The original mounting ring remains intact at the top, and all raised lettering remains clearly legible despite the vintage patina. The red enamel surface shows characteristic aging with some wear spots typical for this type of French agricultural trophy.

This piece would make an excellent addition to collections of French rural antiques, vintage sporting memorabilia, or agricultural history displays.
