French bottle drying rack
Crafted in early 1900s France, this wrought iron French bottle drying rack served an essential function in wine production and household bottle management. The four-tiered circular design allowed multiple bottles to air dry simultaneously after washing, with each tier featuring numerous upward-facing prongs to hold bottles securely by their necks.
The hand-forged iron construction shows authentic patination and surface rust consistent with age and use. Each circular tier connects to a central vertical post, creating a stable pyramid structure. The metal displays the characteristic weathering of authentic period ironwork, with areas of green oxidation at the base transitioning to brown rust throughout the frame. Some gentle warping adds to its authentic character as a working piece.
The rack measures approximately 50cm in height and width, equivalent to 19.7 inches in both dimensions. The graduated tiers decrease in diameter from bottom to top, maximizing bottle capacity while maintaining structural integrity.
This functional antique serves admirably as decorative storage in modern wine cellars, kitchens, or as distinctive rustic decor. Wine enthusiasts and collectors of French country antiques particularly value these utilitarian pieces for their authentic provenance and enduring practicality.
