An antique windmill oil painting on unframed canvas, signed in the lower right corner with the name Oscar Paul. The seller notes the work dates to the 19th century, possibly the 18th, and was unable to identify further biographical information about the artist -- no provenance guarantee is offered. The subject is a Northern European rural landscape, consistent with Dutch or German painterly traditions of the period.

The composition centers on a tall post mill with four sails, set against a moody, overcast sky with patches of warm cloud. Flanking the mill are thatched farm buildings, a small stone outbuilding, and a wooden fence line leading toward a village with a church steeple visible in the middle distance. The foreground features a dirt track, a low stone arch bridge over a culvert, and lush ground vegetation rendered with loose, confident brushwork. The palette runs to earth tones -- ochre, raw umber, dark green and muted grey -- with warm amber and brick-red accents on the mill structure. The paint surface shows age-related craquelure, minor paint loss at the canvas edges and corners, and general surface grime consistent with a work of this age. The canvas is unlined and unstretched, with raw edges visible on all sides.
