French Antique Bread Board Hachoir Set

A well-used French antique bread board and double-handled hachoir (mezzaluna chopping knife) form a matched kitchen set sourced from a French household. The French antique bread board hachoir set represents a classic pairing found in rural French kitchens from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, where both pieces would have seen daily use for bread preparation and herb or vegetable chopping.

The cutting board is made from solid oak, showing extensive surface wear consistent with long working life: numerous knife cuts, natural checks in the wood grain, and darkened areas from years of use. The handle retains its original hanging loop made from twisted hemp rope, threaded through a drilled hole. A small crack is visible in the handle area. The board surface is uneven and well-patinated. The hachoir features a curved carbon steel blade with visible surface pitting and patina; a small stamped maker's mark is visible on the blade face. Two turned wooden handles with brass ferrules are fitted at each end of the blade arc. The blade shows surface oxidation and age-related spotting throughout, consistent with an unrestored antique tool.

The cutting board measures approximately 39.5cm x 21cm x 3.5cm (15.6" x 8.3" x 1.4"). The hachoir measures approximately 32cm (12.6") across. Both measurements are as stated by the seller. A standard wine bottle is shown alongside for scale in several photos.

Sold as a set, these two pieces work well displayed together in a kitchen or dining space as functional antique kitchenware. The hachoir and board are also sought by collectors of French provincial kitchen antiques and brocante enthusiasts.
