French Luneville Blue White Platter

Produced at the Keller et Guerin factory in Luneville, northeastern France, this antique French Luneville blue white platter dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. The backstamp on the base reads "Phenix K&G Luneville," confirming its manufacture by one of France's most prolific faience producers, active from 1778 onward. The Phenix pattern was a standard production line from this factory, making these pieces recognizable among collectors of French transferware.

The platter is oval in form and decorated in blue and white using a transfer-print technique. The border carries a dense band of rococo-style scrollwork interspersed with acanthus leaves, medallion motifs, and trailing floral sprays that extend inward toward the plain white well. The blue tone is a soft, mid-range cobalt, consistent with the Phenix pattern across documented examples. The earthenware body is glazed overall, with a white ground typical of Luneville production. Visible age-related surface marks and light utensil scratches are present on the well, consistent with former use. No chips or cracks are visible in the photos.

The platter measures 31.5cm x 23cm x 3.8cm deep, equivalent to approximately 12.4" x 9.1" x 1.5". This is a practical serving size, suited to fish, charcuterie or cheese presentation. The impressed size mark and a letter "D" are also visible on the reverse alongside the printed backstamp.
