French Amber Glass Demijohn

A large French amber glass demijohn of the type known in France as a Dame Jeanne, used historically for storing and transporting wine, cider, or other liquids in rural households and small-scale production settings. This French amber glass demijohn displays the classic teardrop silhouette associated with hand-blown French glassware from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The glass is a deep amber-brown tone with warm golden-orange translucency visible when light passes through the body. The surface shows the irregular texture and subtle undulations typical of mouth-blown production, including faint vertical lines across the lower body consistent with mold-blown technique. The neck is narrow and elongated, finishing with a thick, rounded applied collar rim in dark amber glass. Close examination of the rim shows minor aging and surface patina on the collar, consistent with age and prior use. The body is full and globular, tapering smoothly upward into the long neck. No cracks or chips are visible on the body. The base is rounded and sits flat on a surface. No maker's mark or embossed stamp is visible in the photos.

Dimensions as stated by the seller: 29cm wide x 43cm tall, which converts to approximately 11.4" wide x 16.9" tall. This is a substantial size, making it a strong decorative presence on a shelf, sideboard, or floor display.
