French Copper Saucepan Villedieu

Crafted in Villedieu-les-Poeles, the Norman town historically known as the capital of French coppersmithing, this antique French copper saucepan carries a stamped maker's mark reading "HAVARD VILLEDIEU" clearly visible on the exterior wall near the handle attachment. Villedieu copper pieces have been collected internationally for generations, and this saucepan is a solid example of that regional craft tradition.

The exterior is formed from copper sheet approximately 1mm thick, retaining a warm reddish-copper tone with light surface patina consistent with age and use. The interior is tin-lined, showing the typical silver-grey finish of traditional French etamage. The lining displays wear marks, minor darkening and surface scratches from historical use, which is normal and expected for a piece of this age. The handle is cast iron, forged in the classic French style with a long upward sweep and a hanging hole at the tip. It is attached to the pan body with two iron rivets, a construction method standard to professional-grade French copper cookware. The rim shows slight unevenness consistent with hand-finished copper work.

The saucepan measures approximately 8cm in diameter and 5cm in height, equivalent to roughly 3.1" x 2". This is a small-format piece, likely used for individual portions, sauces or melting butter, rather than large-batch cooking. The copper wall thickness of 1mm is confirmed by the seller.
