French Honey Pot

Rural French pottery workshops circa 1900 produced functional stoneware vessels for preserving honey and other culinary staples. This handcrafted French honey pot demonstrates traditional terracotta construction methods used throughout provincial France during the early 20th century.

The bulbous form features characteristic earthenware clay fired to a warm brown tone. Cream-colored glaze lines the interior and rim, providing a smooth surface for food storage while the unglazed exterior reveals natural terracotta texture. The flared opening and rounded body reflect classic wheel-throwing techniques employed by French potters of the period.

Measuring 13cm high (5.1 inches), the honey pot displays appropriate age-related patina and shows evidence of historical kitchen use. A small red marking appears inside the glazed interior. The vessel maintains its original form with natural variations in clay color and glaze application typical of handmade pottery from this era.

French honey pots serve as functional kitchen storage or decorative accent pieces in country-style interiors. Collectors value these authentic examples of French provincial pottery for their craftsmanship and cultural significance.
