These cylindrical double-handled crocks were produced across northern Italy for the food preservation industry, particularly for packing sardines and other preserved fish in brine or oil. The form is immediately recognisable: straight-sided walls, a wide mouth with a rolled and flattened rim designed to accept a tight-fitting lid, and two small loop handles positioned just below the collar. The Italian sardine pot stoneware tradition produced vessels in considerable quantity during the 19th and early 20th centuries, and surviving examples show the honest, utilitarian character of industrial pottery from that era.

The body is thrown stoneware with clearly visible wheel-throwing rings on the interior walls, as seen in the top-down photograph. The exterior glaze is a uniform pale buff to off-white tone, applied over the upper two-thirds of the vessel; the lower section and unglazed base show raw, pitted clay with traces of soil and age-related discolouration. The base, photographed separately, is entirely unglazed and bears no visible maker's mark, stamp or signature. There is minor surface soiling, a few dark specks in the glaze, and some glaze pooling near the collar, all consistent with age and use. No cracks, chips or repairs are visible in the photos.

The crock measures approximately 14.5cm wide and 18cm tall, which converts to roughly 5.7" x 7.1". These proportions place it in the mid-size range for this vessel type, practical for display or storage use today.

Pieces of this type are collected for their raw, workmanlike form and their compatibility with farmhouse, wabi-sabi and rustic interior schemes. The crock works well as a utensil holder, a vase for dried stems, or simply as a standalone object on a shelf or sideboard.

95% of my items are tariff-free to the US.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0895/5776/2392/files/57_55d67c00-609a-4abe-b6d7-6cd63b8c6318.jpg?v=1782970467
