The scalloped, wavy rim and the layered border decoration place this plate squarely in the tradition of Rouen-style polychrome faience, a craft that flourished in northern France and was widely imitated across the country through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The piece is very old, as the hand and the glaze character both suggest.

The Paris arms are rendered with care: a silver ship sailing on green waves against a red field, the blue chief scattered with golden yellow fleurs-de-lis, a mural crown above, and a pale blue ribbon below inscribed PARIS. Surrounding the shield, olive branches and lush scrolling foliage frame the device in classic heraldic fashion. The broad rim is filled with a bold alternating pattern of cobalt blue panels, amber and orange floral sprays, golden yellow acanthus scrolls and cross-hatched cartouches - vivid, graphic and well balanced. On the reverse, a handwritten mark is visible on the base. Displayed on a plate stand, a dresser shelf or grouped with other armorial pieces, this plate brings an authentic note of old French civic pride to any interior.

Condition and patina consistent with age. The glaze shows overall crazing throughout, as expected for a piece of this era, and there are minor glaze losses along sections of the rim edge visible in the photos.

Diameter: approx. 9.8 in (25 cm).

95% of my items are tariff-free to the US.
