The clay body is dense and substantial, the kind fired at high temperature in a wood kiln, which accounts for the characteristic tonal shift from warm terracotta at the shoulder and rim down to a cool, smoky grey across the lower body. It almost certainly dates to the nineteenth century, when local potteries throughout France produced these sturdy one-handle jugs in large numbers for everyday use at the table.

The form is honest and well balanced: a gently tapered barrel body that widens slightly at mid-height, a simple rolled rim, and a thick strap handle that sits comfortably in the hand. Concentric wheel-throwing ridges animate the lower third, visible both on the outer wall and spiraling inside the vessel where a dark glaze coats the interior. The exterior is unglazed, left to absorb the natural flashing of the kiln fire -- the result is a surface that feels alive with warmth and variation. On a kitchen shelf, a farmhouse sideboard or a rustic dining table, this jug reads as effortlessly handsome.

Condition and patina consistent with age. There is a chip to the rim at the spout, visible in the photos, which adds to the piece's honest, well-used character without compromising its display appeal.

Approx. 8.1 in tall (20.5 cm).

95% of my items are tariff-free to the US.
